Each elixir is crafted with certified organic ceremonial cacao sourced from northern Peru, close to regions associated with the earliest known ritual use of cacao. This cacao is valued for its rarity, flavour and texture.

What makes this cacao distinctive:

  • Naturally characterised composition: noted for a higher theobromine-to-caffeine ratio than many cacao varieties, contributing to a smooth, rounded profile often preferred for slow sipping

This ceremonial cacao set includes 3 × 140g elixir bags: Cloud Nine, Inner Buddha and Root to Rise.
Each 140g bag contains approximately 8 standard servings or 4 more generous ceremonial servings, depending on how you prepare your cacao.

Ultra premium quality

We use high-quality organic cacao beans native to Northern Peru - where records show cacao was first used ceremonially.

Whole-bean cacao paste

Our cacao is made from whole cacao paste rather than processed powder, preserving its naturally rich texture and complex flavour profile. It is characterised by a notably higher theobromine-to-caffeine ratio than many cacao varieties, contributing to a smooth, rounded cup often preferred for slow, intentional sipping.

Cacao also naturally contains a wide range of bioactive compounds, including phenylethylamine and tryptophan, which add to the overall experience it delivers.

Cloud Nine Elixir

A bright, playful expression of ceremonial cacao, blended with:

  • 100% pure organic ceremonial-grade Peruvian cacao
  • Mucuna bean extract (a natural source of levodopa - the substance the brain turns into dopamine)
  • Ceylon cinnamon from Sri Lanka
  • A touch of sweet dark cherry


Inner Buddha Elixir

A softly indulgent cacao blend inspired by slow, reflective moments, made with:

  • 100% pure organic ceremonial-grade Peruvian cacao
  • Passion flower
  • Wild fig
  • Maple sap

Root to Rise Elixir

A grounding elemental cacao for purists who enjoy their cacao straight up. Root to Rise is pure organic ceremonial-grade Peruvian cacao with:

  • a pinch of pink Himalayan salt
  • a kiss of coconut nectar
  • a sprinkle of the Mayan spice achiote

1. Heat 200ml water or milk, and allow to cool slightly.

2. Add the water/milk and 4 level tablespoons (35g; a ceremonial serving) or 2 tablespoons (17g; a daily serving) of cacao to a blender or pan.

3. Blend in blender or gently whisk in a pan (under a low flame) until smooth and creamy.

4. Sweeten if needed.

5. Enjoy hot or iced.

For best results, take on an empty stomach. And because cacao is a stimulant, it's best taken earlier in the day.

Science meets plant alchemy

After walking away from a career as a medical doctor, 8 Within's founder Dr Ifey Ihonor spent five years travelling the world (from India to Indonesia, Hawaii and Costa Rica) in search of her life’s purpose.

But it wasn’t until a hot and sticky Thursday morning in Costa Rica in 2023 that 8 Within was conceived.

While drinking real Mayan cacao deep in the jungle, Ifey had an indescribably awakening experience. 

“So this is what authentic cacao can do. Wow!”

It was at that moment she knew she had to share the mind-elevating magic of ceremonial cacao with as many people as possible.

But she knew her path with cacao couldn’t be the same as others. She needed to fuse her Western medical training with her growing knowledge of traditional herbalism to create a new type of cacao experience.

Absolute heaven in a mug! Cloud Nine is absolutely delicious. The hints of cherry sweetness, means I don’t have to add anything else. (Unless I really want to!) I love this one for my morning wake up, especially for days when I need more energy. I also love it as part of my menstrual cycle. We created our elixirs to be drunk when you need to shift into a specific frame of mind, but you can also drink them daily as an all-natural way to stay energised and feel amazing. But keep in mind that it's best to have no more than 40g (a ceremonial dose) in a day to avoid overstimulation.

But you can cancel your order for a full refund if you do so before it has been shipped. Yes, 8 Within delivers worldwide, but some countries have complicated import rules, and require a manual order to be created. If you try to place an order to a non-UK country and you're unable to check out, please email hello@8within.com and we will help complete your order manually.
