1. Heat 200ml water or milk, and allow to cool slightly.
2. Add the water/milk and 4 level tablespoons (35g; a ceremonial dose) or 2 tablespoons (17g; a daily dose) of cacao to a blender or pan.
3. Blend in blender or gently whisk in a pan (under a low flame) until smooth and creamy.
4. Sweeten if needed.
5. Enjoy hot or iced.
For best results, take on an empty stomach. And because cacao is a stimulant, it's best taken earlier in the day.

8 Within is EXTRA-ordinary. The best cacao I’ve EVER had – and I’m no stranger to cacao ceremonies. It’s ceremonial grade. Think the best criollo beans, organic, minimally processed. All that jazz. But I’ve had ceremonial grade before… lots of times. And this one? It’s something special.
Let’s start with the taste of the cacao. It’s beyond! After all, it’s Peruvian cacao. In my opinion, the best due to its delicious complexity of notes and (compared to other cacao) very little bitterness. I remember being blown away when I first tried Peruvian cacao six years ago in the Chocolate Museum in Cusco. And, yes, still amazing!
But it’s more than just Peruvian cacao.
It’s a special elixir. A sweet, salty, bitter, savoury delight. The slight kiss of Himalayan salt snuggles up to the scrumptious spice achiote… and to the smidge of coconut sugar.
And it was a breeze to whip up. I couldn’t be bothered to clean my blender or hand blender, so I just grabbed a whisk. I popped the cacao blend into a saucepan. Added some boiling (slightly cooled) water from the kettle, then whisked for a couple of minutes. Simple!
And ridiculously delicious.
(OK, I admit it: I’m a straight-up espresso kind of gal. So, I loved it with just hot water added. Be warned: your taste buds might scream for you to soften the slightly bitter edge with some sugar or milk.)
I drank this cacao elixir on a Saturday lunchtime, after my meal, as a dessert. I savoured the taste… then waited (with bated breath!) to see if it would have any effect.
And… oh! Wow. It hit me.
It wasn’t the standard energy rush I’ve had from cacao ceremonies where I can feel a bit scattered. Instead, I felt buzzed, but also grounded: present, focused, driven.

I have been looking for a ceremonial grade cacao for a while, as I have given up drinking coffee in the mornings. I met Lauretta on Instagram and I am so glad I did. I am obsessed with this cacao! It is so rich and creamy, the texture is to die for! The flavours are also amazing, barely needed sweetening. I just used a tiny dash of maple syrup and almond milk in mine. Such a dream! I will be purchasing more in the future :)

Awesome quality. Felt like it really did calm me, yet kept me alert and focused on my tasks for the day, without the feeling of 'crashing'.
I drank this elixir on a busy day and didn't really have much to eat (incidentally, I only had a small amount of caramelised cocoa beans, also from 8Within, with me to snack on) because I was so focused on getting the tasks done. I felt like this elixir really did keep me going and I didn't get 'hangry' or make impulsive decisions due to not eating lunch (please note, I do not recommend skipping meals!!).

I love all of these! They have so much flavour and depth. The Grounding one in particular really makes you feel connected to the Earth. It's such a calming experience. I thought that I would need to add something sweet or milk but neither of these were required - it tastes and feels so good on its own. It gave me a noticeable gentle lift in mood and energy (and I usually either feel jittery or nothing from caffeine). Can't wait to order again!
